Job Scope and Responsibilities:
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment within the S.B. Cox Ready Mix fleet. This role ensures that all machinery operates safely and efficiently to support the company’s concrete delivery operations, playing a key part in maintaining operational reliability and uptime.
Reporting Structure:
The Diesel Mechanic reports directly to the Shop Manager and has a reporting line to the Director of Equipment & Fleet Services, President and Vice President.
Key Duties:

Maintenance and Repair:
-
Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines in mixer trucks, dump trucks, and other fleet equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and hands-on techniques.

Repair or replace components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.

Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

Operational Support:

Test-drive vehicles post-repair to confirm operational standards are met.

Collaborate with drivers, dispatch, and operations managers to address equipment issues and schedule maintenance efficiently.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and service history for all fleet assets.

Compliance and Safety:

Adhere to all company safety policies, health regulations, and industry standards during repairs and maintenance.

Keep work areas clean, organized, and secure to ensure a safe working environment.

Collaboration:

Work closely with shop staff and supervisors to prioritize repairs and maintain fleet readiness.

Provide input on equipment conditions to support fleet management decisions.

Qualifications:
-
Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic (minimum 2-3 years preferred).

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.

Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and hand/power tools.

Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus but not required.

Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work in various conditions.

Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving skills.

Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Certification (e.g., ASE) is advantageous but not mandatory.
