Plant Maintenance Technician – Western Region
Location: Western Region (Goochland, Powhatan, Doswell, Blackstone, Meherrin, and Sandston Plants)
 

Job Scope and Responsibilities:

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and reliability of all equipment across the Western Region ready-mix plants. This hands-on role ensures maximum plant uptime, safe operation, and efficient production by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues reported by Plant Managers, and executing both scheduled and unscheduled repairs.

Key Duties

Equipment Maintenance & Reliability:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on all plant equipment, including batching systems, silos, conveyors, dust collection systems, scales, load cells, moisture meters, air compressors, blowers, and water systems.

  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components to identify and correct issues before they cause downtime.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures quickly and effectively to minimize production interruptions.

  • Execute repairs and follow-up on maintenance issues reported by Plant Managers.

  • Maintain and calibrate scales, load cells, and moisture sensors to ensure batching accuracy.

 

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with Plant Managers on a daily basis to understand operational needs, address reported equipment issues, and coordinate maintenance timing to avoid disrupting production.

  • Provide timely updates to Plant Managers and the Plant Operations Manager on repair status, parts needed, and equipment condition.

  • Assist Plant Managers during peak production periods or emergency breakdowns as required.

Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping:

  • Perform all maintenance activities in full compliance with MSHA/OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance workspace at each plant.

  • Follow proper lock-out/tag-out procedures and ensure safety standards are upheld during repairs.

  • Document all maintenance work, parts used, and equipment history in the company maintenance system.

 

Inventory & Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of critical spare parts and supplies.

  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements, upgrades, or replacements to enhance reliability and efficiency.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs when necessary.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification in industrial maintenance, heavy equipment mechanics, or a related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in ready-mix concrete, aggregate, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments (strongly preferred).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability in welding, fabrication, conveyor systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Experience with batch plant automation and dust collection systems is a significant plus.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record (CDL is a plus).

  • Physically able to work at heights, lift heavy objects, and perform duties in all weather conditions.

  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with Plant Managers and operations teams.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel daily between plants in the Western Region.

  • Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency repairs.

  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and supporting plant operations.
